Today, the role and place of using modern innovative technologies in distance education is growing. Distance learning is a new form of modern education in difficult conditions. The Internet offers many resources for creating tests and tasks to control the study of English vocabulary and grammar. Competition among interactive platforms is very high.
There are several theories as for the origin of the idioms in English. Some of them are formed by means of slang phrases, the others come back from the pieces of literature, and the number of idioms are closely connected with the English traditions and customs. It is obviously known that the more peculiarities of the language a person obtains, the more colourful his speech is. Idioms are sure to make people's communication much brighter and more meaningful. The structure of the idioms is rather complicated, as it does not follow traditional grammar rules. Let us consider some of idioms to clarify their origins and meanings.
English is taught using an audio-visual method of learning, during which all new material is perceived by students only by ear, and the meaning of language units is revealed with the help of visual clarity. The main principle of this method was the appeal to visual materials, in particular watching films. During the study of a dialogic situation, students were shown its content with the help of a short video recording, and only then were given the appropriate speech forms of expression. At the initial stage, students watch the film accompanied by a recording of the dialogue, then watch the film again, and during the second viewing the teacher checks the correct understanding of the relevant phrases. In case of difficulties, the teacher explains the meaning of these lines. After watching the film, students learn to imitate the phrases using the dialogue. At the end, students act out similar role-playing situations and learn to memorize new lexical items. This method makes it possible to artificially create a communicative life situation, learn new lexical units, and then reproduce them in practice.
A teaching strategy known as test, teach, test (TTT) has students first accomplish an activity or assignment without help and support from the teacher. The teacher then presents the target language based on the issues identified. Next, the students complete a different task to practice the new language. TTT is a helpful strategy because it enables teachers to pinpoint students' language-related needs and provide the appropriate support. It can be especially helpful at intermediate levels and higher, where students may have encountered language before but may be having particular difficulties with it, as well as in mixed-level classes to help determine unique goals for each student.
